About The Designer, Naja Walker:
I fell in love with fashion at the age of 13. I remember taking bed sheets and hand sewing them into potentially beautiful gowns. Designing was sort of my destiny. The steps I took to get where I am today were all ordered and I didn't even realize it. Hindsight is 20/20.
I wanted to be an architect at first, when I took a class for it I realized that it wasn't buildings that I wanted to build, it was garments. While in college I studied Fashion Merchandising & Retail marketing for my business skills. I then taught myself how to sketch and sew as what I thought was a hobby. In this process of discovering my purpose I realized that one of the most beautiful parts of myself is my middle name, Yaél. I began to embrace it and through a dream it further became confirmation to me. Yaél, which means god's strength, embodied exactly everything I needed to pursue my rightful purpose. It was right in front of my face the entire time.
Fashion is the way of
life to me, it's your first form of self expression without having to
speak. It's all around us. Its a message you want people around to hear.
It cant be measured or really defined, it speaks for itself. Fashion
allows you to be fearless...
